This module presents an integrative approach to incorporating breath, movement, and touch in Myofascial Energetic Release, with a focus on trauma healing and management. You will gain an understanding in what trauma is and how it manifests in the body while learning how to work trauma-informed in your practice. Trauma can be seen as a dysregulated state of the nervous system and can come as a result of single incidents of fear and terror as well as growing up in a mis-attuned environment. Emotions which could not be expressed at the time or movements and unfinished defensive responses which were halted can get stored as myofascial tension and chronic hyperarousal or shutdown response of the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The result can be physical, such as a tight diaphragm and shallow breathing, tense hip flexor muscles, low back pain, a stiff neck or a locked jaw, among other symptoms. Panic attacks, sleeping difficulty, fatigue, burnout and being overwhelmed by anger are also related to trauma and a dysregulated ANS. Myofascial tension and holding patterns in the body can be called “frozen history”. Fascia is directly related to the ANS and deep work on holding patterns can “unfreeze” old feelings and memories. In this module we will focus on how you can guide your client to connect with unconscious material and integrate it in a safe and healing manner.
