(MER) Training
Chronic pain affects 80% of the global population, creating a need for skilled practitioners who can provide holistic care. MER training is a six-part program designed to equip you with advanced bodywork techniques to address both the physical and emotional needs of your clients.
Satyarthi Peloquin, a bodyworker for over 50 years, developed MER to treat chronic pain by targeting soft tissue spasms and integrating emotional awareness. His lifelong passion for healing has inspired and trained over 10,000 practitioners worldwide.
The MER training at Bodywork Scandinavia is led by Ulla Thordal and Ketu Bo, experienced bodywork practitioners passionate about guiding students through this transformative process.
What is the Myofascial Energetic Release Training?
Myofascial Energetic Release (MER) is a deep bodywork technique that focuses on releasing tension in muscles and fascia, which can become tight, lose elasticity, or get stuck to other tissues. This tension can result from stress, lack of movement, or emotional factors, causing pain and poor posture. MER addresses these issues through hands-on techniques, assisted stretches, myofascial unwinding, and joint mobilization, while also integrating emotional awareness to target the root cause of pain.
During MER training, you’ll learn a holistic approach to bodywork that goes beyond physical manipulation, addressing emotional and psychological blockages as well. The training focuses on improving posture, breathing, and overall body awareness, helping both clients and practitioners restore balance and well-being. This method stimulates the body’s natural healing process, improving circulation and metabolism, while also releasing endorphins for natural pain relief.
Created by Satyarthi Peloquin, MER is the result of over 47 years of experience in bodywork. This training is offered in six modules, allowing participants to build skills progressively. Each module can be taken independently (with the exception of the advanced module) and is designed to meet the needs of both beginners and experienced bodyworkers.
The goal of MER training is to provide a comprehensive understanding of how to relieve pain, restore physical function, and achieve mind-body balance. Graduates will be equipped to offer professional-level care, empowering clients to lead healthier, more active lives. The training provides valuable tools for both physical and emotional healing, ensuring you’re well-prepared to meet the growing demand for holistic bodywork practitioners.

What is it?
Connective tissue (fascia) is a resilient network of mainly collagen fibers, which attaches, stabilises, envelops and separates muscles and other internal organs. It is a tissue that is omnipresent in the body, down to the level of the smallest cells.
Connective tissue consists for the most part of water, making it possible for the different tissues to slide well past each other. Fascia can contract, it has sensors and nerves and has the ability to send messages through the body faster than your nervous system. It has a big impact on how you feel and how you move.
In the fascia, adhesions and areas of stiffness arise. Most people have a lot. The causes can be many, but lack of movement, old injuries and emotional stress are the usual suspects. However, there is good news. Any damage to your connective tissue is reversible.
How does it work?
The session starts with an inventory of any (pain) complaints and personal wishes. Together we look at your body (body-reading) to be able to determine where the tension and imbalance is.
The pace is slow and the work is deep. How you experience the strokes is important and I will be asking for your feedback. Sometimes I will ask you to make a certain movement to make a stroke work more effectively.
Tense spots may be sensitive during the massage, but we will work to discharge the tension and induce relaxation. A feeling of space, warmth and lightness is almost always experienced after the massage.
What positive results can I expect from MER?
The effects are diverse. Long accumulated tension in body and mind are released. There can also be emotions released from experiences that the body has stored and not processed.
Generally, after a deep connective tissue massage you experience more flexibility, mobility and freedom of movement in the body. Oxygen and nutrients can circulate through the body unhindered by cramps and adhesions. Waste products can be disposed of and a healthy metabolism gets going again.
Other effects of deep connective tissue massage:
- More energy and a more relaxed state of mind
- More body awareness and the feeling of being ‘at home’ in your body
- A better and more effortless breathing
- A healthier and younger skin
- Recovery from body-pain
Deep connective tissue massage is usually experienced as very pleasant. You feel more at home in your body, more relaxed and more in touch with yourself.
Are there any side-effects?
Muscle pain, just like after a visit to the gym, may appear in some people. Just like with normal muscle pain, it disappears after a few days
Is this work only for people with pain and problems?
You do not have to have pain to benefit from deep bodywork. A session provides relaxation and has a beneficial effect on your skin and the health of your body. Regular sessions works to prevent burnout.
