Deep bodywork for physical and emotional health

Learn Myofascial Energetic Release
with Ketu Bo and Ulla Thordal

Professional Training in Deep Bodywork, Fascia Therapy and Trauma-Informed Practice

Myofascial Energetic Release (MER) is a comprehensive method of deep bodywork that works with the body as a unified system—where structure, fascia, breath, nervous system and emotional experience are continuously interacting.

Tension in the body—whether experienced as chronic pain, restricted movement, poor posture or fatigue—is rarely only physical. It often reflects a combination of myofascial restriction, stress, lifestyle patterns and unprocessed emotional experience. Myofascial Energetic Release combines a clinical understanding of anatomy and physiology with a holistic perspective on healing.

In this professional training, you will learn how to work with these patterns through an integrated approach that combines:

  • deep, sensitive bodywork
  • myofascial release and unwinding
  • joint mobilization and assisted therapeutic stretches
  • breathwork and nervous system regulation
  • trauma-informed guidance of emotional integration

As the body begins to release holding patterns, this goes together with a shift toward greater ease, resilience, awareness and capacity for self-regulation.

The Curriculum

Each training module combines theory, demonstration and hands-on practice, allowing you to develop both understanding and manual skills.

You will engage in
  • live session demonstrations
  • guided practice exchanges
  • body-reading and palpation training
  • movement, meditation, dance and awareness practices
  • group sharing, Q&A and feedback
  • guided, visual presentations relevant to the module theme

What you will learn
  • anatomy and physiology of the myofascial and skeletal system
  • body-reading and functional assessment
  • deep tissue bodywork and fascia release
  • myofascial unwinding and spontaneous movement
  • somatic psychology and trauma-informed practice
  • an understanding of the autonomic nervous system and trauma responses professional ethics

Techniques and skills you will develop
  • skills to assess and treat pain syndromes and postural dysfunction
  • how to release chronic tension and muscle holding patterns
  • developing “listening hands” through sensitive and precise touch
  • applying assisted stretches and joint release and mobilisation techniques

Connective tissue (fascia) is a resilient network of mainly collagen fibers, which attaches, stabilises, envelops and separates muscles and other internal organs. It is a tissue that is omnipresent in the body, down to the level of the smallest cells.

Connective tissue consists for the most part of water, making it possible for the different tissues to slide well past each other. Fascia can contract, it has sensors and nerves and has the ability to send messages through the body faster than your nervous system. It has a big impact on how you feel and how you move.

In the fascia, adhesions and areas of stiffness arise. Most people have a lot. The causes can be many, but lack of movement, old injuries and emotional stress are the usual suspects. However, there is good news. Any damage to your connective tissue is reversible.

The session starts with an inventory of any (pain) complaints and personal wishes. Together we look at your body (body-reading) to be able to determine where the tension and imbalance is.

The pace is slow and the work is deep. How you experience the strokes is important and I will be asking for your feedback. Sometimes I will ask you to make a certain movement to make a stroke work more effectively.

Tense spots may be sensitive during the massage, but we will work to discharge the tension and induce relaxation. A feeling of space, warmth and lightness is almost always experienced after the massage.

The effects are diverse. Long accumulated tension in body and mind are released. There can also be emotions released from experiences that the body has stored and not processed.

Generally, after a deep connective tissue massage you experience more flexibility, mobility and freedom of movement in the body. Oxygen and nutrients can circulate through the body unhindered by cramps and adhesions. Waste products can be disposed of and a healthy metabolism gets going again.

Other effects of deep connective tissue massage:

  • More energy and a more relaxed state of mind
  • More body awareness and the feeling of being ‘at home’ in your body
  • A better and more effortless breathing
  • A healthier and younger skin
  • Recovery from body-pain

Deep connective tissue massage is usually experienced as very pleasant. You feel more at home in your body, more relaxed and more in touch with yourself.

Muscle pain, just like after a visit to the gym, may appear in some people. Just like with normal muscle pain, it disappears after a few days

You do not have to have pain to benefit from deep bodywork. A session provides relaxation and has a beneficial effect on your skin and the health of your body. Regular sessions works to prevent burnout.
